A Matter of Life - ATP (free)

30 March 2024 T/M 2 June 2024

In the free exposition 'A Matter of Life', we showcase work by participants of the past Advanced Textile Program (ATP). The presentation on the Panoramadeck offers an insight into the development of young talent and is a must-see for anyone interested in participating in the ATP, for which registration opened on the same day.

About the ATP

In the annual Advanced Textile Program (ATP), an international group of starting talents get extensive access to the resources and facilities of the TextielMuseum and TextielLab in ten weeks, guidance from leading mentors and an inspiring group of professionals.

Last edition's participants were: Amy Lewis, Andia Coral Newton, Dominika Gacka, Ida-Simone Brerup, Maria E André, Nicky Vollebregt, Tatjana Haupt and Tomoyo Tsurumi

Results ATP get podium

The Advanced Textile Program 2023 (ATP) has unleashed a lot of energy and this is clearly reflected in the results. Like a relay race, in which one person passes the baton to another, this exhibition shows the interfaces between the processes of the eight up-and-coming talents. This is typical of the ATP programme, which emphasises mutual collaboration and experimentation, and the importance of an inspiring and supportive network. Exploring the possibilities of textiles together around the theme 'A Matter of Life' allowed new ideas to develop to shape the future story of textiles.

For this exhibition, project leader Michelle Baggerman asked the participants to submit a number of meaningful pieces from their ATP trajectory: a top three of personal work as well as a top five of work made jointly or by others. These could be sketches and samples, but also further developed pieces. Because after the conclusion of the trajectory at the TextielLab, most participants continued working at home.

"They took everything they made here last year and had time to reflect on it. What comes back now for the exhibition gives a nice insight into their development process."

Double opening

The ATP expo will be on display for free on the Panorama Deck from the 30th of March and, in addition to selected experiments and outcomes, will also show a film in which all the candidates speak about the programme and the working process. This once again highlights the 'boost' that the designers experience at the beginning of their careers when given the chance to experiment freely on our industrial machines. Parralel to the opening, registration for the 2024 ATP edition will also start. Two extra spots are available this year, meaning 10 candidates will start working in the TextielLab this autumn.
