Share your Museum Pass during the National Museum Week

14 March 2023

The National Museum Week is approaching, and this year there is a special offer. From the 1st till the 7th of April, you can lend your Museum Pass (Museumkaart) – which is normally personal – for one week. Give your Museum Pass to your sister, neighbour, or barber for a day, so they can also enjoy over 450 museums. Here you will read why a free visit to the TextielMuseum is definitely worth it during the Museum Week.

The rules

  • During the Museum Week, we will not check if the displayed Museumkaart belongs to the visitor.
  • You must show the actual Museum Pass; a copy or photo of the card is not allowed.
  • Only one visitor per card is allowed. The visitor takes the place of the cardholder, but the cardholder can still visit the museum at another time
  • Each card can only be used once per day.

To see

Historical and contemporary craftsmanship

Borrow a Museum Pass and feel like you're in a palace. Currently, you can get an exclusive look inside the living palace of our King and Queen at the exhibition 'Royal embroidery - stitches and stories'. Almost two years ago, the TextielLab received the commission to create a worthy replacement for the ancient curtains of the Chinese Hall in Huis ten Bosch. The result? A cultural heritage that represents the entire Netherlands. Discover how the design of the curtains came about, which special people contributed to this versatile project and the wealth of stories that emerge when people embroider together.

From idea to end product

Every year, we welcome many makers to the TextielLab, each with their own unique ambition, message, and plan. In 'Secrets of making #2', ten designers and artists who have recently worked in the lab give you a behind-the-scenes look and share their making process. They take you through how ideas are born and the steps they have taken to create the final work. Follow the ten from their studio to the lab where the collaboration with our specialists begins.

See art come to life

There is never a dull day in the TextielLab, the beating heart of the museum. Take a peek into our lively workshop and watch (inter)national designers and artists develop textiles using a wide range of techniques and designs. Discover the stories behind their process or chat with one of our enthusiastic experts. Watch as the most beautiful tapestries take shape, thread by thread, on the pounding weaving machines, see the knitting machine rapidly knit stitches together, or witness the creation of the most cuddly art in the tufting department. Part of the lab is the Design Studio, where you can work as a designer and create your own socks.
