Laser cutting

A laser beam can be used to cut or etch various materials precisely. In the TextielLab, we use a computer-controlled laser cutting machine made by BRM Lasers.

Please note: at the laser department, we work with an annual plan that is determined in advance. The programming for 2021 is already determined, which means we cannot accept any projects for this year. Do you want to develop a project in 2022? Submit your application before 1 April 2022.

Technique
An intense beam of light is used to etch or cut fabrics during the production process. Every material or fabric that you bring with you to work on reacts differently to laser technology. We can discover the possibilities together through experimentation.

Laser technology is mainly used in fashionwear, and interior design products and applications.

Working in the TextielLab?

Do you want to use laser technology in the TextielLab? First, you have to submit a request, which we will assess for motivation, innovative merit and level of artistry. In this respect, the TextielLab focuses on outfitting, art and fashion projects. If there is a match, an intake will take place to see whether your proposal is feasible.

After the intake, we will send you a work proposal and an offer. As soon as we receive confirmation of our offer, we will schedule the work your project involves. In order to achieve optimal end results, you should be present in the TextielLab as much as possible during the development phase of your project.

How to submit a design

  • A digital JPEG, TIFF or Illustrator file is required for etching.
  • An Illustrator AI or DXF file is required for cutting.
  • Please supply extra material of the same type that you want to use to allow for experimentation.

Technische Specificaties

The TextielLab has a laser cutting machine made by BRM Lasers that produces a beam of light with a diameter of 0.1 mm. The machine has a working surface area of 100 x 1600 cm; a larger surface area can be processed by moving the fabric.
